This weeks spotlight is on: Deede Ware, Master Cosmetologist for 8 years, Owner and Stylist at Hair By Truvy Salon in Dacula, Georgia. Deede has been using Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color since October 2011 and previous lines used were Matrix and Rusk.

Interview with Dedee:

How did you find out about Advanced Coloration, approximately when did you switch to AC? Met the sales and marketing manager. I switched my Professional Color Line approximately 9 to 10 months ago.

What where the factors or things that made you want to switch your Color Line to Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color? The performance of the color, the healthy condition of the hair after coloring, the technology of the color process with Advanced Coloration is revolutionary and is so much better for your hair, it allows more pigment in smaller molecules to enter the hair along with conditioner that go inside the hair itself, without having to blast the cuticle open due to low ammonia therefore the cuticle closes more easily and securely which aids in retaining the original color without fading.

What are the key things or differences in using Advanced Coloration versus your prior Color Line? The condition of the hair after coloring is so much better, the length of time that the color stays true is amazing. Also the ease of formulation, one of the easiest lines to formulate available in the marketplace today.

Have you completed the Educational Training Classes at Advanced Coloration? Completed thru which level? What things did you find appealing about the training with Advanced Coloration? Yes, I have completed all three levels, I love the support from the staff and educators and the hands on training for color correction.

Do you place your orders via the Advanced Coloration Website? What are a few things or advantages in doing business with Advanced Coloration? Yes, I simply sign in, place my order and I receive it the next day!! So simple, especially when I am replenishing my retail stock for my customers because the Shampoos and Conditioners as well as the gel, mousse and hairspray just fly off of my shelves!!!

If you were to state a few key differences in how the color line is used or performs versus your previous line can you please list them here: Easy formulation, true to swatch colors, improves condition of hair, shine of hair and lasting color.

Do you purchase the retail shampoo and conditioners and styling from Advanced Coloration? Can you please tell me what you like about the retail products? The shampoos and conditioners improve the condition and healthiness of the hair from the first time you use it to a very marked improvement after two weeks of use. Hair spray is glue free so you can comb out and use heat on hair again to restyle with out melting glue on the hair. Works as a thermal protector when restyling.

In conclusion would you like to share a statement that sums on how Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color has made your job as a Colorist more enjoyable or easier? I am more knowledgeable due to the support and education that is always at your fingertips via the website or a phone call away. I do not have to leave my salon to get product so I can be accessible to my customers. I have more retail business because the products really work!!!! No guesswork in adding tones to base colors, A/C has already done that for you. I love seeing happy customers that know they have received a service that is actually good for their hair!

Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color has many customers just like Deede and we will be writing about them in the coming weeks so check back to read about them and their business! They will also be sharing tips and experiences and photos of their work on our Facebook Page so make sure to “LIKE US” and join us for more conversation.

If you are ready to convert your color to Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color then contact us today to do exactly what Dedee has done! We can be reached at 1-877-50-COLOR or info@advancedcoloration.com.

that use Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color.

This week’s Featured Stylist: Linda Phelps, Master Cosmetologist since 1982, Licensed in Georgia and Florida currently resides in Blairsville, Georgia.

Linda is a Colorist and previously used Schwarzkopf color, as well as Paul Mitchell and Redken.

She has been a colorist for over 30 years and converted to Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color in 2011. She located Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color via the internet and contacted Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color to find out more about the line. She was invited to a personal introduction session at the Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color Training Center in Buford Georgia and learned the basics of the line. According to Linda she was impressed by the training coordinator and how easily the line was to use and the results she saw were impressive.

Linda purchased the color package and began to use the Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color on her current and new clients and she said “I have never been happier with a Hair Color Line or Hair Care Products as I am with Advanced Coloration, they are SUPERIOR products to anything I have used in the past.”

Linda was asked if she would share a few key differences in the Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color line versus Schwarzkopf that she had been using and her answers were as follows:

“It mixes 2 parts developer to 1 part color, and the color tube is large at 3.4 ounces. I get much more color for my money.”

“No damage to the hair when using the Bleach from Advanced Coloration. It is so easy to use!”

“The Color and the Hair Care leaves the hair so soft and shiny.”

“I have no fear using Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color , I select the desired target color, follow the very simple formulation process ( I learned in the level 1 class) and then measure and mix and I get a great result EVERY TIME!” “Previously when I mixed with other colors I never was quite sure what the result would be…I often just hoped the result was what I wanted! With Advanced Coloration I get the exact result I was going for, no more hoping just results!”

Wow you can hear for yourself from an experienced stylist that there are some very good differences between the Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color Line and others that she has used previously. Here is a breakdown in the key differences of Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color versus Schwarzkopf that Linda was using:

Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color mixes 2 parts developer to 1 part color and are a demi, semi and permanent color all in one line.

Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color does not have that strong ammonia odor when mixing and applying the color to the client.

The Bleach is easy to mix and does not swell up and crawl out of the bowl or the foils. It is very gentle and does not streak, spot or leave the clients hair damaged when mixed well and used properly.

The color cannot over process. Let’s say that again, you cannot over process a client with Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color, with the ammonia at ½% it will stop processing and not over process and go “dark”.

The Gray Hair coverage is so easy to achieve. Simply use the 10 volume developer with your target color from the swatch book mix 2 parts developer to 1 part color, apply to the client’s Gray for 30 minutes and it is covered. No mixing additional “N” to achieve grey coverage.

We also asked Linda what she liked best about Advanced Coloration as a Company. She said “She loved doing business with Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color as we made her feel part of the team, like family, our training was the best she has ever attended and she learned so much and wants more! In addition she also mentioned “that our pricing was a great bonus to our line…she got amazing performing products and she got to put profit into her business!” She also said “You have amazing customer service and ship the product quickly right to my location!”

Linda also wanted to share with everyone that her color business has increased A LOT and she thanks the beautiful results of Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color for assisting her. She says it is “AMAZING AND SELLS ITSELF once someone has the color applied and can see the results!” We at AC say GO LINDA!

We have many customers just like Linda and we will be writing about them in the coming weeks so check back to read about them and their business! They will also be sharing tips and experiences and photos of their work on our Facebook Page so make sure to “LIKE US” and join us for more conversation.

How do I know which Hair Styling Products will really work for me?

Over the years hair styling products have come to the market and it seems they have virtually exploded to so many that is hard to know which ones you should choose and why?

The questions come when you are standing before a huge display of Hair Sprays and Styling Products. The most common question” How do I know what will work for my hair type?” Often you figure it out by trying them only to find they really are not any different than the counter or station full you have now. None the less this is a good question. The answer: most styling products have similar ingredients in a different package or name and that makes it really hard to figure out which you need…until now and we have the answer!

Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color offers a line of styling products that consist of 6 choices from a High Tech Hair Spray to a Thermo High Heat Protection and they are made from compounds of organic based ingredients that are nourishing to the hair. That is a nice combination!

Technically speaking the products offered by Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color all have very High Tech properties that give the products amazing performance without the use of GLUE. The polymers that are used are vegetable based versus plastic this technology delivers awesome performance without coating the hair with stiff or sticky glues.

The styling products also use Iconic Technology that makes the hair stick together and hold…the result is high hold without weighing the hair down or allowing dirt and dust to be attracted to the hair which causes the hair to look dull and dirty. You will have Sexy Shiny Hair that is touchable and easily brushed out to restyle when you like.

These products are truly NEW and you will love how they make your hair feel and so will the clients in the chair! Just 6 Products is all you need to build the body you need, protect the hair from high heat tools, give soft touchable curls or just the right spike! The Finishing Spray will hold those styles with a strong hold without becoming a helmet head.

Just like all the products in the Advanced Coloration Professional Hair Color line these Hair Styling products are guaranteed to meet your personal satisfaction! You have to experience the true performance difference of these styling products.

Here is the definition of PH: In chemistry, pH (Potential Hydrogen) is a measure of the acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution.[1] Pure water is neutral, with a pH close to 7.0 at 25 °C (77 °F). Solutions with a pH less than 7 are said to be acidic and solutions with a pH greater than 7 arebasic or alkaline. This was taken from Wikipedia.

PH matters to your hair and hair color because the higher the PH is of a product or hair color the more it opens your hair cuticle.

Okay in simpler terms if you hair cuticle is opened and not returned to a closed natural state the hair color you have just gotten will simply wash right out and even for those that do not color increased PH levels in products result in dry and dull hair.

Most hair care shampoo and conditioner’s on the market whether you buy Salon products or a product from a drug store they use Citric Acid, or other forms of natural acids to drop the PH Level of their products when they are manufactured. Sounds pretty harmless right?

Well the problem lies here… acids like Citric are unstable and will evaporate , dissipate and when they does it raises the PH level of your shampoo and conditioners. It may start out at a level that will not open the hair cuticle but as you open and close the lid or leave it open ( yes you know you do!) in your shower it raises to levels that open the hair cuticle. By the way they call this PH Balanced in the Industry.

So what kind of hair care products does not raise in PH? Those that are PH Based or made with a good blend of surfactants. These are good natural based elements that are blended together much like a good wine produces a STABILIZED PH shampoo and conditioner and thus the PH will never go to a level to open the hair cuticle. Even if you left it open in the shower for many many days.

So where can you find these PH based Shampoo and Conditioners that also contain no SLS ( detergents we have discussed this in other blogs) and also no Paraben? Actually at your local salon that carries Advanced Hair Care Products like Color Lock and Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioners. If you need to locate a salon in your area simply email us at info@advancedcoloration.com or call 1-877-50-COLOR.

If you want to keep your locks shiny, bouncy, and retain that expensive hair color with a “GOOD FOR YOU” natural PH Based shampoo or offer it to your clients then you have to get these products right away.

There is no question that there are lots of Professional Hair Color Lines that promote being “Non Ammonia “ Or “Ammonia –Free” in fact there is a great deal of publicity surrounding the issue of hair color that contains ammonia vs. hair color that is labeled “ammonia-free.” In an effort to help our clients and those searching for the correct facts we are writing it all on our blog this week, as always we at Advanced Coloration are here to provide clarification and answers to some frequently asked questions. We are in the business to teach Professional Stylists the real truth about Hair Color and Styling Products and bring healthy shiny hair to the American Consumer.

Let’s check it out?

What is Ammonia and Why is it in Hair Color?
Ammonia has long been used in permanent hair color in fact many of the formulations in Professional Color have not changed since the late1940’s early 1950’s. This is how it works: first, it sets the stage for color to penetrate the hair strand by opening up the surface (otherwise known as the cuticle) once the cuticle has been penetrated and opened the color molecule can be inserted into the hair shaft. Ammonia effectively lifts out the natural hair pigment so that the hair color molecules can penetrate and deposit (on non -previously colored hair). That’s when you see the new shade. So essentially, ammonia is largely responsible for hair color’s ability to alter hair hue and semi or permanently deposit hair color.

What is Ammonia-Free Color and How does it Work?
Color products that are labeled “ammonia free” generally contain an ammonia substitute called mono-ethanolamine or MEA. Like ammonia, MEA is effective at performing the first step of a permanent color service that of opening the cuticle. However, because the MEA molecule is 3.5 times larger than ammonia, it cannot penetrate the hair as effectively, so it might not be as efficient when it comes to lifting natural color out of the hair and depositing artificial color deep into the hair strand. Therefore, non ammonia colors may be less effective than ammonia based color when the colorist attempts to create lasting gray coverage, or the sufficient lightening required to produce exceptional light blonde or vibrant red shades. Additionally, renowned hair color expert Beth Minardi expresses, “In my experience, the MEA in hair color products can remain in hair even after the color has been removed, which can lead to progressive darkening and dulling.” We at Advanced Coloration thru our research have seen that MEA can stay in the hair up to 2 weeks and continue processing which causes the cuticle to not return to a closed position and thus dry, dull and faded color are the result.

MEA vs. Ammonia: What are the Pros and Cons?
Ammonia has a distinctive odor, and colorists and clients find the odorless nature of MEA appealing during the color application. Historically, we note that ammonia-based formulas provide long lasting color, intense vibrancy and superior gray coverage.”

Finally a true ammonia performance based hair color line does exist providing the performance of ammonia with the attractive features of low or no odor of the ammonia –free lines.

Advanced Coloration found the answer with the development of it’s low ammonia color line. It provides you the performance of the Ammonia with the benefits of no odor like MEA….the best things are that with a line like AC the color cannot process and go dark because with only a .5% ammonia it evaporates and stops processing in 30 to 40 minutes.. The Hair Cuticle will close back down and the result is VERY SHINY, Vibrant hair color. Most of clients that have used AC Color comment that they can use the color even when they could not use other brands due to itching and irritation, that is due to the fact we refine the AC Color Molecule to 99.8% eliminating many of the elements that cause irritation which is often mistakenly blamed on ammonia. AC is truly the first change providing amazing performance to the Professional Hair Color Industry in over 50 years. AC is truly HI-TECH.

For further information contact us or watch our new video series about “How Advanced Coloration Works” which is scheduled to launch on May 1st, 2012.

One last thought…Not all products advertise the truth or actually perform to the level that they claim only you can truly judge this and be an informed stylist or hair color client. We invite you to See, Feel and Experience the AC Difference for yourself.

Today we are taking on the Debate: Salon versus Drug Store Brands of Shampoo and Conditioners and which one is better? Read this short blog and you will find out what makes One Brand better than all others on the market and you will be like WOW I did not know that!

In today’s world everyone is looking for the best deal! You spend good money on your hair yet you are left wondering if Salon Products are better than Drug Store?

Well maybe? (Your Stylist thinks so and many of them truly only know what they read or are marketing too by a sales rep from that product).

This much I do know! You do want to get products that perform amazingly and are willing to pay for it ( within reason) …so How do you know whether a Shampoo and Conditioner is more than just a bunch of marketing hype and worth the money you are paying for them?

You have to do your homework! American made Salon and Drug Store products to be honest ingredients wise are very similar. Read some labels and you can see for yourself. Most of them contain SLS or Sodium Laurel Sulfate which is a detergent plus other harmful and possibly toxic chemicals. I don’t know about you but I sure don’t want to use harsh detergents on my expensive colored hair! Some of the TOP LEADING SALON PRODUCTS have the same ingredients as those in Drug Store Brands… That makes you go hmmm, now doesn’t it?

Also another way they are equal is they are not PH Stabilized. The label or marketing may say “ph balanced” but that does not equate to being “stabilized”. Actually they use Citric Acid to bring the PH level lower so it will not open your hair cuticle but the fact is Citric Acid is very unstable and actually when opposed to the air will evaporate (just open and close the lid, and say what you leave yours open in the shower!) and then the PH Level of the product rises to levels that can cause color fade and dryness…there goes that expensive beautiful hair color!

I have tried a bunch of Professional Salon and Drug Store brands over the years and what I found is none of them improved my hair texture and kept my color beautiful for weeks until I started using Advanced Colorations Advanced Hair Care Color Lock or Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner.

The good news is Advanced Coloration’s Hair Care is actually a PH Stabilized Product by using a blend of surfactants, much like a good wine uses a blend of good grapes, they can produce a ph stabilized Shampoo and Conditioner that contains no SLS and it makes for one of the best performing shampoo and conditioner products on the world market today. NO color fade, no dryness! PH stays at 6.0 and will not open the hair cuticle. NO DRYNESS AND NO COLOR FADE even after 8 weeks since my last professional hair color…how is that for performance and value?

When I found it they were not chocked full of other toxic chemicals that I had been trying to eliminate using on my body I was even more thrilled.

HOW DO I GET THIS PRODUCT? ORDER IT, follow the information below:

To try these products simply create an account on our website and order some for yourself today. We have coming very soon a 2oz, 8oz and 32oz and One Gallon Sizes in these products. It is available in a 16.9 size right now and it is very concentrated so that amount even with long hair should last you a couple of months.

So to end this debate: Advanced Coloration Hair Care is better than any other Salon or Drug Store Shampoo and Conditioner for a lot of reasons but most importantly as it is PH Stabilized! That is revolutionary and you get to benefit. Plus you know you are getting the best for your MONEY!

So what you waiting for? Order NOW!

Parabens and their effects

Parabens are something that most people aren’t aware of – although many of us use them on a regular basis. Parabens are a chemical compound of para-hydroxybenzoic acid, and common types of parabens include butyl, propyl and ethyl parabens. Less common types include benzylparaben and isobutylparaben.

Parabens occur naturally in such things as blueberries, prunes and cinnamon although all parabens used commercially are made synthetically. A common use for parabens is as a food additive, usually to add colour or flavour, and they are also known for their ability to reduce the effects of bacteria and spoilage. They are also commonly found in oil and glue products.

Parabens are found in a variety of everyday products – cosmetics, deodorant, face cream, shampoo and toothpaste. Check the list of ingredients on one of these products in your home and you will almost certainly see that parabens are included – an estimated 90% of cosmetic products include parabens.-

Studies have found that the biggest risk from parabens seems to be from the use of products that require a prolonged exposure to skin, such as skin creams and facial lotions. The longer that the parabens are on the skin, the more opportunity there is for parabens to be absorbed. When used in skin care products, parabens are absorbed directly into the blood stream rather than through the gastrointestinal tract.

One type of paraben – methylparaben – has also been linked to the premature aging of skin. A study undertaken in Japan indicated that certain cosmetic products may cause skin to age excessively when exposed to ultra-violet rays. Ironically, this compound can be commonly found in products designed to fight the effects of aging.

Some tests have indicated that parabens have caused an increase in estrogen which can possibly affect the male and female reproductive organs. Some studies in men have shown that a low sperm count and a decrease in testosterone are directly related to the intake of parabens.

One of the biggest areas of concern is the effect of parabens on breast cancer. Several studies have found traces of parabens in women with breast cancer. There seems little doubt that parabens can affect breast tissue – but whether they actually increase the possibility of breast cancer several studies are showing that there are indications that is could be a contributing factor.

It’s difficult not to come into contact with parabens – they are used in so many products that we use daily. Use of parabens is still legal in the US and it’s an area that will continue to be watched carefully. If you are concerned, an increasing number of products are now being manufactured without Paraben like our products from Advanced Coloration.

We at Advanced Coloration definitely want to produce products that contain NO PARABEN.
IS YOUR TOXIC SHAMPOO REALLY WORTH IT?

By Christine Oster, Director of Marketing Advanced Coloration USA and active advocate for the education of consumers about “DEADLY BEAUTY” of Toxic Beauty Products.

A more in depth look at a COMMON Chemicals in Shampoo’s known as (SLS) aka Sodium Laurel Sulfate or (SLES) Sodium Laureth Sulfate.

Before I start explaining in detail about this common but toxic chemical in your Shampoo let me state the following:

Did YOU know? Public Health Laws in the US allow:

Almost any chemical to be used in a personal care product

Misleading or Incomplete Labeling of Ingredients

Unsubstantiated Claims about Product Attributes or Benefits

Little or No Testing is done on products be it animal or human

That is pretty hard to believe huh? Well the truth is…

Organic, Natural, even the words “Good For you” are used in many Hair Care Products that are available for purchase and being marketed to the US Consumer every single day. So you are like “SO WHAT! I like what I use it works great and makes me feel beautiful.” The facts are you are looking for a solution to your beauty issues , or those you think you have and are willing to just go on what a Company’s product Advertising tells you about how awesome their product can make you feel or look. The “BAD NEWS” is many of these claims are just that…marketing claims with no true research, testing or regard for Consumer’s Long Term Health.

In a free society it seems that is common place to produce products and sell them deceptively to Businesses and Consumers with little or no regard to actual safety. If you think the US regulation agencies protect you think again…that is another blog topic for sure. Back to the issue at hand: To these Companies it is all about stabilization or shelf life of the products, how they smell (Fragrances) and will it make you think it is good for your hair and skin, make you think you are getting Clean ( SLS is the Foaming AGENT)… I often call this “DEADLY BEAUTY” as these toxic chemicals effects are accumulative over time and numerous studies show they can cause disease like cancer and other deadly “UGLY” diseases all in the name of being Beautiful. Oh yeah and they make lots of lots of money doing this too.

Interesting enough most of these products did not even come to the beauty care market until the 1960’s and to further bring home the point Cancer rates have steadily increased since that time…draw your own conclusion. Cancer occurrence rates use to be 1 in 10 people we are rapidly approaching 8 in 10. I don’t know about you but I want to avoid being that statistic if possible.

So you are thinking where do I find products that don’t contain this “Toxic Soup” of Chemicals and will they really work for my hair? Well I can only share my personal experience and those of our customers that yes you can and you can do it with Advanced Hair Care Products.

So is Advanced Coloration’s Products any different…really? YES REALLY! Great care and concern was taken to develop products that not only were high performance but more importantly did not contain NASTY TOXIC CHEMICALS. It is not about how much of this we can sell or how much money we can make. It is about providing a better, safer , less toxic alternative to the US Consumer on every day Beauty products like Hair Color, Shampoo , Conditioner and Hair Styling Products! The GOOD NEWS is we don’t contain the NASTY TOXIC CHEMICALS and the Products OUT PERFORM their Toxic Counter Parts and give you the GREAT HAIR you so desperately want.

My personal experience is that the Color Lock and Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner are actual improving my hair! My hair color stays beautiful for 6 weeks or longer …I only need to have those dang Grey’s covered back up. My hair is soft, shiny and manageable and I have Curly hair that I can now easily style with no frizzy issues. I also noticed significant reduction in hair loss which has been a problem for me since I hit my mid 40’s. My experience is also being repeated to us daily by individuals using these products. I can’t imagine why I would use anything else even from strictly a Performance Based preference, let alone it is actually healthy!

Okay back to educating you on the first toxic chemical in our series of discovery.

So I am going to share with you more in-depth information about SLS or SLES. Over the next few blogs I will breakdown other toxic chemical compounds as well. Today we focus on the most common of the Toxic Chemicals SLS OR SLES.

By the way just so you don’t think we are making this stuff up to market our product just Google the topic…you will find 1,000’s of links confirming research and truth in this matter. Here is one I like that explains SLS and SLES in more detail.

Taken from the source: natural-health-information-centre.com

Both Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) and its close relative Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) are commonly used in many soaps, shampoos, detergents, toothpastes and other products that we expect to “foam up”. Both chemicals are very effective foaming agents, chemically known as surfactants.

Unfortunately, both sodium laureth sulfate and its cousin are also very dangerous, highly irritating chemicals. Far from giving “healthy shining hair” and “beautiful skin”, soaps and shampoos containing sodium laureth sulfate can lead to direct damage to the hair follicle, skin damage, permanent eye damage in children and even liver toxicity.

Although sodium laureth sulfate is somewhat less irritating than SLS, it cannot be metabolized by the liver and its effects are therefore much longer-lasting. This not only means it stays in the body tissues for longer, but much more precious energy is used getting rid of it.

A report published in the Journal of The American College of Toxicology in 1983 showed that concentrations of SLS as low as 0.5% could cause irritation and concentrations of 10-30% caused skin corrosion and severe irritation. National Institutes of Health “Household Products Directory” of chemical ingredients lists over 80 products that contain SLS and SLES. Some soaps have concentrations of up to 30%, which the ACT report called “highly irritating and dangerous“.

Shampoos are among the most frequently reported products to the FDA. Reports include eye irritation, scalp irritation, tangled hair, swelling of the hands, face and arms and split and fuzzy hair. This is highly characteristic of sodium laureth sulfate and almost definitely directly related to its use.

So why is a dangerous chemical like sodium laureth sulfate used in our soaps and shampoos?

The answer is simple – it is cheap. The sodium laureth sulfate found in our soaps is exactly the same as you would find in a car wash or even a garage, where it is used to degrease car engines.

In the same way as it dissolves the grease on car engines, SLES also dissolves the oils on your skin, which can cause a drying effect. It is also well documented that it denatures skin proteins, which causes not only irritation, but also allows environmental contaminants easier access to the lower, sensitive layers of the skin.

This denaturing of skin proteins may even be implicated in skin and other cancers.

Perhaps most worryingly, sodium laureth sulfate is also absorbed into the body from skin application. Once it has been absorbed, one of the main effects of SLS is to mimic the activity of the hormone Estrogen. This has many health implications and may be responsible for a variety of health problems from PMS and Menopausal symptoms to dropping male fertility and increasing female cancers such as breast cancer, where estrogen levels are known to be involved.

Products commonly found to contains SLS or Sodium Laureth Sulfate

Soaps
Shampoos
Bubble-baths
Tooth paste
Washing-up liquid / dish soap
Laundry detergent
Children’s soaps / shampoos
Stain Remover
Carpet Cleaner
Fabric glue
Body wash
Shave cream
Mascara
Mouthwash
Skin cleanser
Moisture lotion / Moisturizer
Sun Cream

Over the next few weeks I will take you thru a more in depth look at the following:

Resorcinol: Common ingredient in hair color and bleaching products; skin irritant, toxic to the immune system and frequent cause of hair dye allergy. In animal studies, resorcinol can disrupt normal thyroid function. The federal government regulates exposures to resorcinol in the workplace, but its use is not restricted in personal care products.

Formaldehyde: A potent preservative considered a known human carcinogen by the International Agency on Research on Cancer. Formaldehyde, also an asthmagen, neurotoxicant and developmental toxicant, was once mixed into too many personal care products as antiseptic. This use has declined. But some hair straighteners are based on formaldehyde’s hair-stiffening action and release substantial amounts of the chemical. Many common preservatives also release formaldehyde into products (like DMDM hydantoin, quaternium, and urea compounds).

DMDM hydantoin & bronopol (2-Bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol): Cosmetics preservatives that decompose and release formaldehyde, which the International Agency on Research on Cancer lists as a known human carcinogen. The preservatives and their decomposition products, including formaldehyde, can trigger allergic reactions. About one-fifth of U.S. cosmetics and personal care products contain a chemical that releases formaldehyde. Not surprisingly, more Americans develop contact allergies to these ingredients than Europeans.

Coal tar hair dyes and other coal tar ingredients (including Aminophenol, Diaminobenzene, Phenylenediamine): Coal tar, a byproduct of coal processing, is a known human carcinogen, according to the National Toxicology Program and the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Hair stylists and other professionals are exposed to these chemicals in hair dye almost daily. While FDA sanctions coal tar in specialty products such as dandruff and psoriasis shampoos, the long-term safety of these products has not been demonstrated.

BHA: The National Toxicology Program classifies butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) as “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen.” It can cause skin depigmentation. In animal studies, BHA produces liver damage and causes stomach cancers such as papillomas and carcinomas and interferes with normal reproductive system development and thyroid hormone levels. The European Union considers it unsafe in fragrance. It is found in food, food packaging, and personal care products sold in the U.S.
